After just over a decade the IPENZ Transportation Group (IPENZ TG) conference is back in Queenstown (Tāhuna), the adventure capital of New Zealand. We expect well over 200 professionals to attend the annual event, which has been running for more than 40 years. The conference presents a unique opportunity to network and share ideas across our diverse and wide-ranging industry.
The topic for this year’s conference is “Then. Now. Tomorrow” which will encourage debate and papers in this area. ‘Then’ is about reflecting and learning from the past but not dwelling on it. ‘Now’ is what we are doing right now to transport people (and goods) and improve their lives. ‘Tomorrow’ is about moving forward with consideration of the future and how people will live, work and travel.
Interestingly the theme for the last TG conference in Queenstown (2006) was Back to the Future and it is fascinating to see what the issues of that time were. On a personal note I spotted a paper on the Christchurch Central City Transport Concept (Kane and Woods) and I have been reflecting on how we have now, through recovery process, been able to realise some of those concepts like a slow core, new bus interchange, precincts and streetscape improvements.
I would encourage you to join us, connect with the IPENZ TG community and soak up what Queenstown has to offer!
We look forward to seeing you there.
